May 1, 2010 - Austintown

The boys and girls track teams competed at the Optimist Invitational in Austintown on Saturday.  The meet always boasts some of the top competition in the state, and this year was no exception.  Many of the performances from Saturday's meet rank among the top marks in Ohio this season.  Akron Buchtel outpaced Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy 55-49 to take the girls' meet.  Wadsworth won the boys' title by defeating Twinsburg 61-46.

A pair of Wildcats made their mark on the field Saturday.  Keary Iarussi was the lone scorer for Struthers with a 4th place finish in the discus.  His toss of 151 feet was his second best of the season, and it also placed him as the top Division II thrower on Saturday.  Katelyn Ardale bested a 22 year old school record in the 1600m run.  Her time of 5:31.54 bested the old mark of 5:31.7 set by Jody Lisko in 1988.

Relays Are State Bound
Boys 4x2, 4x4 and 4x8 Earn Trip

March 13, 2010 - Geneva

The boys track team competed at the GaReat American Scholastic Indoor Championship this weekend in Geneva.  The meet was a last chance qualifier for the OATCCC Indoor State Championship.  Three of the boys' relays were on the bubble to be one of the 16 qualifiers to the meet from divisions 2 and 3.  At the end of the meet, all three would earn their trip to Akron on March 20th.

The 4x200m relay of Keith Auman(11), Kevin McDonald(11), Ryan Kish(11) and Tommy Kimbrough(9) were looking to hold on to the 16th, and final, qualifying spot.  Despite a missed exchange, their time of 1:37.96 held up through the final weekend of meets.  The addition of Junior, Tyler Dugan, helped the Wildcats take 21 seconds off of their previous best in the 4x800m relay.  The time of 8:44.79 was good for 10th place on the perfomance list.  Paul Zagorsky(12), Ryan Pavlicko(12) and Brandon Domagalski(12) teamed up with Dugan to take 3rd in the meet.  The 4x400m relay of Pavlicko, Zagorsky, Kish and Kimbrough ran to a 6th place finish in a time of 3:39.93.  The time bested their old mark by five seconds and also ranks them 10th in the state.

"They worked hard to get here," said Coach P.J. Mays.  "They earned this, and it was a great meet for us."  The OATCCC State Championship will take place on Saturday, March 20th at the University of Akron's Stile Fieldhouse.  The meet starts at 9:30, and a complete schedule can be found here.

The final state performance lists will be posted at www.finishtiming.com.  Live results and a video feed will also be available during the meet.
